A company did a quality check on all the packs of trail mix it manufactured. Each pack of trail mix is targeted to weigh 9.25 oz

. A pack must weigh within 0.23 oz of the target weight to be accepted. Find the absolute value inequality that describes the situation and solve it to find the range of rejected masses, x.
|x − 0.23| + 9.25 > 0; x < 9.02 or x > 9.48
|x − 9.25| > 0.23; x < 9.25 or x > 9.48
|x − 0.23| + 9.25 > 0; x < 9.25 or x > 9.48
|x − 9.25| > 0.23; x < 9.02 or x > 9.48

Each pack of trail mix is targeted to weigh 9.25 oz.

A pack must weigh within 0.23 oz of the target weight to be accepted.

Let the weight of the pack x

The range of accepted weight will be as following:

∴ 9.25 - 0.23 < x < 9.25 + 0.23

subtract 9.25 from all sides

∴ -0.23 < x - 9.25 < 0.23

which can be written as ⇒⇒⇒  | x - 9.25 | < 0.23

So, the rejected weight is the inverse of that inequality.

∴ The absolute value inequality for the rejected weight range is:

| x - 9.25 | > 0.23

=====================================

So, the range of rejected masses:    x < 9.02   OR  x > 9.48

How would I work this
Alex73 [517]
I can’t read the bottom half of the fraction so I will just assume it’s (a-b) to the power of 3.

So basically you have power of 4 and power of 3. so you can divide the top and bottom by (a-b) to the power of 3 so you would be left with a-b/1 = a-b

Final answer: a-b

the sum of independent normally distributed random variables is normally distributed with mean equal to the sum of the individua
vazorg [7]

The probability that x is between 420 and 460 is 0.25778

The sum of independent normally distributed random variables is normally distributed with mean equal to the sum of the individual means and variance equal to the sum of the individual variances.

so, the mean would be,

μ = 100 + 150 + 200

μ = 450

and standard deviation would be,

σ = 15+ 20 + 25

σ = 60

We need to find the probability that x is between 420 and 460.

P(420 < x < 460)

= P( 420 -  μ < x -  μ < 460 -  μ)

= P((420 -  μ)/σ < (x - μ)/σ < (460 -  μ)/σ)

= P((420 -  450)/60 < Z < (460 -  450)/60)

= P (-1/2 < Z < 1/6)

= P(-0.5<x<0.167)

= 0.25778

Therefore, the probability is P(420 < x < 460) = 0.25778
