Answer:

Charles Robert Darwin was a British naturalist and biologist known for his theory of evolution and his understanding of the process of natural selection

Explanation:

2. Some of these variations are passed on to offspring;

 • As the genetic changes may occur due to mutations in the genes.
 • As these changes do not occur in days or months but they occur after hundred and thousands of years.
 • The off springs are distinct from their ancestors. This results in the formation of new species. Gradual modification of the existing species leading to the formation of new species is known as speciation.

4.Individuals vary in their ability to survive and reproduce;

 • Those with the most favorable adaptations are more likely to survive and reproduce.
 • Individual variation (usually through mutation) may introduce traits or abilities that enable that individual to survive in order to reproduce. Usually these are tiny incremental changes that accumulate over centuries or millennia.

Note: However there are certain drawbacks of Darwinism even such as it failed to explain the basis of variation and the mode of transmission of characters.

20 POINTS!!
Naily [24]

Answer:

Because Intercalary meristems are found in the the stem part of the sugarcane in whole length.

Explanation:

 • As we have studied about meristem regions, that these are the regions found at the nodal areas which are able of cell division and growth. Intercalary meristem are present in the nodes of sugarcane stem which lead to the rapid increase in elongation of stem.
 • Intercalary meristem are located at the base of leaves and nodes that leads to the increase in length.
 • On the tip of sugarcane, apical or tip region meristem are found. When the tip region is removed, the presence of intercalary meristems play the role by facilitating the elongation of stems in sugarcane.

Please see attached image for better understanding.

Hope it helps!

Classify the following characteristics depending on if they describe events occurring in mitosis, meiosis I, or meiosis II.
Temka [501]

Answer:

Mitosis events are:

Results in 2 genetically identical

diploid nuclei

A diploid number of sister

chromatids align at the spindle

equator during metaphase

Meiosis I events are:

Results in 2 genetically diverse

haploid nuclei

Homologous chromosomes align

at the spindle equator during

metaphase

Homologous chromosomes pair

up during prophase

Crossing-over occurs during

synapsis

Meiosis II events are:

Results in 4 genetically diverse

haploid nuclei

A haploid number of homologous

chromosomes align at the spindle

equator during metaphase

Explanation:

Mitosis is a type of cell division which produces two daughter cells that are genetically identical to the parent cell. In mitosis, the chromosome number of the parent cell is maintained in the daughter cells i.e. a diploid cell (2n) will undergo mitosis to produce two diploid (2n) daughter cells. During mitotic division, sister chromatids (replicated chromosomes) are involved in the division stages. i.e. diploid sister chromatids align at the equator of the cell during Metaphase and also sister chromatids are separated or pulled apart to opposite poles during Anaphase.

Meiosis, on the other hand, is a kind of cell division that results in daughter cells with a reduced number of chromosome (by half). Since the chromosome number is reduced, meiosis occurs in a two step division process viz: Meiosis I and II.

Meiosis I produces two genetically different daughter cells. The daughter cells have a reduced number of chromosomes i.e. from diploid (2n) to haploid (n). Meiosis I involves homologous chromosomes (similar but non-identical chromosomes received from each parent) which pair up to form a TETRAD structure in the Prophase stage. This structure allows for an exchange of chromosomal segment between non-sister chromatids of homologous chromosomes, a process called CROSSING-OVER. Crossing-over is what makes the daughter cells genetically different from the parent cell. Homologous chromosomes also aligns at the equator of the cell during Metaphase and later separates during Anaphase.

Meiosis II divides the two daughter cells produced in meiosis I into four genetically different daughter cells. Since the chromosome number has been reduced from diploid (2n) to haploid (n) in meiosis I when homologous chromosomes separate, haploid sister chromatids are involved in the stages of meiosis II i.e. haploid sister chromatids align at the equator of the cell during Metaphase and eventually becomes pulled apart during Anaphase.

The lab setup shows four test tubes. Tube 1 contains water only. Tube 2 contains a live snail. Tube 3 contains a live green wate
katovenus [111]

Answer:

I would assume D

Explanation:

Tube 1 doesn't contain an organism so it can't be that one. Both a snail and a plant are considered an organism, and cellular respiration occurs in almost any organism's cells
