During the Scientific Revolution, many intellectuals rejected the teachings of ancient scientists that had been promoted by the Church for centuries. Instead, these modern intellectuals decided to conduct research on their own and conduct experiments in order to obtain their evidence. This is what is called the scientific method. During these years, the Enlightenment also took place, bringing into focus questions on nature and humans' natural rights.
