Answer:

\boxed{ \bold{ \huge{ \boxed{ \sf{13 \:  \: units \: }}}}}

Step-by-step explanation:

Perpendicular ( p ) = 5

Base ( b ) = 12

Hypotenuse ( h ) = ?

<u>Finding </u><u>the </u><u>length</u><u> </u><u>of</u><u> </u><u>missing </u><u>side</u>

<u>Using</u><u> </u><u>Pythagoras</u><u> </u><u>theorem</u>

\boxed{ \sf{ {h}^{2}  =  { p}^{2}  +  {b}^{2} }}

plug the values

⇒\sf{ {h}^{2}  =  {5}^{2}  +  {12}^{2} }

Evaluate the power

⇒\sf{ {h}^{2}   = 25 + 144}

Add the numbers : 25 and 144

⇒\sf{ {h}^{2}  = 169}

Squaring on both sides

⇒\sf{ \sqrt{ {h}^{2} }  =  \sqrt{169}}

Calculate

⇒\sf{ {h}  = 13 \: units}

Hope I helped!

Best regards! :D

Here you are trying to find the hypotenuse. So you would take
5^2 (five squared) plus 12^2 (twelve squared) and add them using the equation a^2+b^2= c^2. Now you square 5 and 12 to get 25 and 144. You add them together and get 169. Take the square root of 169 and c. The square root on c will cancel out the squared (to the power of two) part leaving you with just c. And the square root of 169 is 13. So c (the missing length) is 13. C=13.

Does the equation have a max or min
Yakvenalex [24]

Answer:

Min

Step-by-step explanation:

To check if it has a max or min, you must reference the a value. The a value in this case is 2, and that is positive. Positive parabolas point up, so they can only have a minimum point.

An arch is in the shape of a parabola. It has a span of 100 feet and a maximum height of 25 ft.
faltersainse [42]

Answer:

y=-\frac{1}{100}(x-50)^2+25

the height of the arch 10 feet from the center is 24 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

An arch is in the shape of a parabola. It has a span of 100 feet, the vertex lies at the center 50 and the maximum height of 25 ft.

Vertex at (50,25)

vertex form of the equation is

y=a(x-h)^2+k, (h,k) is the center

y=a(x-50)^2+25

the parabola starts at (0,0) that is (x,y)

0=a(0-50)^2+25

subtract 25 from both sides

-25=a(-50)^2

-25=a(2500)

divide both sides by 2500

a=-\frac{1}{100}

y=-\frac{1}{100}(x-50)^2+25

the height of the arch 10 feet from the center.

center is at 50, 10 feet from the center so x=40 and x=60

y=-\frac{1}{100}(40-50)^2+25

y=24

the height of the arch 10 feet from the center is 24 feet
