The humming bird need to fly 17 feet to get from its nest to the flower

<h3><u>Solution:</u></h3>

Given that , A hummingbird's nest is 15 feet high in a tree

And a flower is on the ground 8 feet away from the base of the tree.

We have to find how far will the hummingbird need to fly to get from its nest to the flower?

Now , if we can observe there forms an right angle triangle, with distance between flower and nest as hypotenuse and height of tree and distance of flower as other legs.

Now, we can use pythagorean theorem

Pythagorean theorem, states that the square of the length of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of squares of the lengths of other two sides of the right-angled triangle.

By above definition, we get

\text { (distance between nest and flower) }^{2}=\text { (height of tree) }^{2}+\text { (distance of flower from tree) }^{2}

\begin{array}{l}{\text { (Distance) }^{2}=152+82} \\\\ {\text { Distance }^{2}=225+64=289} \\\\ {\text { Distance }^{2}=17^2} \\\\ {\text { Distance }=17}\end{array}

Hence, the bird has to travel 17 feet.

Suppose a and b are the solutions to the quadratic equation 2x^2-3x-6=0. Find the value of (a+2)(b+2).
KonstantinChe [14]

Answer:

(a+2)(b+2) = 4

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the following quadratic equation:

2x^2-3x-6=0

Let a a and b be the solution of the given quadratic equation.

Solving the equation:

2x^2-3x-6=0\\\text{Using the quadratic formula}\\\\x = \dfrac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}\\\\\text{Comparing the equation to }ax^2 + bx + c = 0\\\text{We have}\\a = 2\\b = -3\\c = -6\\x = \dfrac{3\pm \sqrt{9-4(2)(-6)}}{4} = \dfrac{3\pm \sqrt{57}}{4}\\\\a = \dfrac{3+\sqrt{57}}{4}, b = \dfrac{3-\sqrt{57}}{4}

We have to find the value of (a+2)(b+2).

Putting the values:

(a+2)(b+2)\\\\=\bigg(\dfrac{3+\sqrt{57}}{4}+2\bigg)\bigg(\dfrac{3-\sqrt{57}}{4}+2\bigg)\\\\=\bigg(\dfrac{11+\sqrt{57}}{4}\bigg)\bigg(\dfrac{11-\sqrt{57}}{4}\bigg)\\\\=\dfrac{121-57}{156} = \dfrac{64}{16} = 4

Matrix A = [6 -12 4 8]. What is matrix X if 1/2x=A?
Step2247 [10]

Answer:

X = \left[\begin{array}{cccc}12&-24&8&16\end{array}\right]

Step-by-step explanation:

A matrix is given by

A = \left[\begin{array}{cccc}6&-12&4&8\end{array}\right]

Now, we have to find the matrix X if \frac{1}{2} X = A

⇒ X = 2A

Now, multiplication of a constant with a matrix means multiplication with that constant with all the terms of the matrix.

So, X = \left[\begin{array}{cccc}6 \times 2&-12 \times 2&4 \times 2&8 \times 2\end{array}\right]

⇒ X = \left[\begin{array}{cccc}12&-24&8&16\end{array}\right] (Answer)
