Proverbs or maxims are sayings that have a lesson in them. They have a meaningful lesson that applies to the events of one's life accordingly.
The proverbs<em> "The chickens come home to roost"</em> and <em>"if you play with fire, you'll get burned"</em> both have the same meaning. They basically mean that any wrong act that has been instigated or done by an individual will always find its way back to the originator. In simple words, we can say that when one does something wrong against another person, the consequences may not be seen all at once but it will surely strike him back someday. One's actions will always bring its consequences to the doer.
