Answer: True

Explanation:

The prokaryotic cells are much smaller and simple than the eukaryotic cells. The prokaryotic cells are structurally more simple and small in size as compared to the eukaryotic cells. Due to the small size of the cells, their surface area to volume ratio is greater as compared to the eukayotic cells.

The large surface to volume ratio as seen in the smaller prokaryotic cells facilitates the intake of nutrients easily and distributed to any part of the cell. However, in the large eukaryotic cell, the surface area of the cell is limited as compared to the volume means the nutrients cannot be rapidly diffuse to all the parts of the cell.

As a result of this the eukaryotic cells need a variety of specialized internal organelles to conduct the metabolism, transport the chemicals to the cells and provide energy to the cell.

Answer:

True.

Explanation:

Prokaryotes and eukaryotes shows various similarities as well as differences among themselves. The eukaryotes have well defined nucleus whereas such nucleus is absent in prokaryotes.

Prokaryotes are much smaller in size than eukaryotic cells. The small area has large surface area to volume ratio. This ration helps in the process of diffusion and metabolism in prokaryotes. Due to their small size, prokaryotes have large surface area to volume ratio than eukaryotic cells.

Thus, the correct answer is option (a).

A chimpanzee has 48 chromosomes. When performing meiosis, one chromosome does not split properly in Anaphase II, causing one cel
Schach [20]

Answer:

The mutated cell will have 25 chromosomes.

Explanation:

Meiosis is a cell division process in sexual reproduction which involves two successive divisions of a cell having a diploid (2n) number of chromosomes into four daughter cells having a haploid (1n) number of chromosomes.

Meiosis consists of two successive nuclear divisions, meiosis I and meiosis II. Each division consists of these stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.

Anaphase consists of anaphase I and II. During anaphase II, the centromeres linking the two pairs of chromosomes which are called chromatids separate, and the sister chromatids move toward the opposite poles of the cell and are now called chromosomes.

Therefore in the chimpanzee having 48 chromosomes, after underoing meiosis, each daughter cell will have 24 chromosomes. If there is a case of non-separation of one chromosome, the cell will have 1n + 1 chromosomes i.e. 24 + 1 = 25 chromosomes.

Which of the following does not influence the time necessary for a nerve impulse to be transmitted?
Pie

Answer:

e. whether or not the impulse begins in the CNS

Explanation:

Nerve impulse is action potential movement through the axon. Nerve impulse propagation has its velocity (speed at which nerve impulse travels down the axon) which depends on many factors. For example, myelination increases the conduction velocity. Also, the larger the diameter of an axon, the higher the velocity is. Nodes of Ranvier present on the axons, and myelin sheath between the nodes act as a good electrical insulator which also increases the velocity.
