Dr. Peterson does an experiment to research the growth rate of mice. He has two groups of mice. He feeds one group a type of foo

d and adds chemical A, which is supposed to increase growth rate. The other group he feeds the same food without chemical A added. His research shows that chemical A increases growth rate by 30%. He does the experiment 4 times and comes up with the same result each time.
Dr. Peterson concludes that chemical A does increase the growth rate of mice. Is Dr. Peterson's conclusion supported by scientific knowledge?
A.
Yes; his conclusion is supported by evidence from his experiment.
B.
No; science cannot be used to research small animals such as mice.
C.
Yes; any study that involves a percentage is based on scientific knowledge.
D.
No; scientific knowledge never comes from research or experiments.

Answer:

Option A, Yes; his conclusion is supported by evidence from his experiment.

Explanation:

Dr. Peterson’s study is supported by scientific knowledge. In his research he found that chemical A increase the growth rate of mice by 30% and in order to assure the validity of result obtained, he conducted the same experiment 4 times. And since all the time same result was obtained, the conclusions from his study can be accepted.

Thus, any scientific knowledge which is tested and trialed and has established similar results every time can be considered a valid study .

A natural disaster caused a population of 4,695 organisms to migrate to a new habitat. A few generations after the disaster, it
Alex Ar [27]

Answer:

49.54

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Number of organisms in original habitat = 4695

Number of organism in new habitat = 2326

Solution:

To find the percentage of the organisms in the new habitat that has migrated to the new habitat, we use the expression below:

% of the population in the new habitat = \frac{number of organisms in new habitat}{number of organisms in original habitat} x 100

% of the population in the new habitat = \frac{2326}{4695} x 100 = 49.54%

What type of isolation was occurring in the collared lizard population?
Ray Of Light [21]

Answer:

Dispersal

Explanation:

It should be understood that there was a point in time when the collard lizards were going into extinction. This is due to some certain human activities such as bush burning, which caused the death of this particular creature and others.

Therefore, this activity led to the dispersal of the remaining member of the population, which resulted to being isolated on a mountain.

The fruit fly, drosophila melanogaster (d. melanogaster) is an excellent model for studying fundamentals of development because?
lakkis [162]

Drosophila melanogaster an excellent model for studying fundamentals of development because many of the genes involved in the development of the fruit fly are also found in humans and  the precise formation of each of their 959 body cells has been mapped.

Its many of the genes involved in the development of the fruit fly are also found in humans. Drosophila melanogasteris which is also called Fruit fly is small in size and minimal requirements, many fly's can be raised and tested within a small laboratory which does not have access time, space or funding.

Genetic factors also make this fly an ideal model organism. Drosophila melanogasteris only has four pairs of chromosomes compared to 23 pairs in humans.

Whether a fly has white or red eyes is due to alleles at a single locus. It is thus a _______ or _______ trait.
maxonik [38]

Answer:

The correct answer is "qualitative, discrete".

Explanation:

A qualitative or discrete trait is defined as a characteristic that have no intermediate features, and is often the result of genetic alleles at a single locus. For instance, if the form the seeds of pea could be either round or wrinkled, but not with intermediate forms. This is the case of the fly that has white or red eyes, but does not have pink eyes or other colors in between.

Rom4ik [11]

Answer: Oligodynamic and unaffected by antimicrobial resistance

Explanation:

Silver is one of the most affected effective antimicrobial which is so effective that the microbes die when being exposed to the silver.

It is used in case of wound dressing, and it is used to coat medical devices . It is used as an external application such as on the skin and while dressing.

The oligodynamic action of the metal is to block the free carbonyl and sufhydryl group present in the organism.

Even in the small concentration it can be used to kill the microbes.
