The Sweatt vs. Painter case helped bring an end to "separate but equal" educational facilities.

Heman Sweatt was an African American man who applied to the University of Texas. However, he was immediately denied simple based on his race. He then ended up suing the school, as he felt it was a violation of his constitutional rights. The Supreme Court agreed, as they stated that the refusal to allow Sweatt to attend the school dispite being qualified was a clear violation of the Equal Protection clause of the 14th amendment.

Overall, this case helped to bring down the doctrine of "separate but equal" as well as setting an example that Thurgood Marshall could use when arguing for the Brown family in the famous Brown vs. Board of Education case just a few short years later.

Feliz [49]
The Pullman company was having difficulties ending the strike. They enlisted the help of the government, who attached mail cars to the Pullman train cars. Therefore, the striking workers were “interfering with the mail” which is a federal offense. This allowed the government to come in and forcibly stop the strike.

Hope this helps!!

Art [367]

Answer:

What Finney is saying is that, if legislation is made by the government based on underlying moral principles (he refers to this moral principles as moral law), then, said legislation is as valid as the moral principles than inspired them.

For this reason, citizens are obliged to respect the legislation, because this act is equivalent to acting under one's own moral principles.
