I'll challenge you to describe a life that doesn't use math.
I'll even bet you money that you can't do it.

Even if you move to a remote Pacific island, where only two
or three other people live, wear banana leaves for a skirt, and
hunt, trap, fish, and pick fruit for food, you can't do it.

The first time you catch 200 fish and your neighbor picks
150 coconuts, you need some coconuts and he needs some fish,
so you decide to trade some of yours for some of his. You both
need to agree on how many coconuts are worth how many fish,
and how long the fish will stay edible before they begin to stink.
Then you need to know how to count fish, coconuts, and days.
None of that can happen without some math.

I promise you ... The only way you're going to live a life without math
is if you decide right now that you refuse to learn any, and you grow up
not knowing any.  Then you'll be lucky to get a job, and if you do then
you'll never know if you're getting paid the right amount or being cheated.
You'll never know what you can buy and what you can't, and you'll go
through life totally broke.
You'll wake up one day and say to yourself "Self ! How can you call this a life ? ! ?"

You always do math. Your a pilot. How much speed should you go Your a nurse. How many meds? How much? Your a writer. Write a book about math. You need math to succeed. You need math for any job. In the book I'm reading the character doesn't go to school and she NEEDS math. Your counting oranges. How many? Your dividing cookies for your family. How many will each get? Your multiplying every cookie by 2 since you doubled the recipe. Your subtracting because you paid for a box of chocolates. You had $60.00 and the box was $16.55 How much is left? You made a bet and you won $100 how much do you have? These are only examples but the point is, you need money and with money comes math and with math comes jobs where you make money? You wanna succeed? You get MATH!!!!

Question 3 (1 point) Co-60 has a half life of 5.3 years. If a pellet that has been in storage for 26.5 years contains 14.5g of C
Zarrin [17]

Answer:

464 grams.

Step-by-step explanation:

Amount of substance:

The amount of substance after t years is given by an equation in the following format:

A(t) = A(0)(1-r)^t

In which A(0) is the initial amount and r is the decay rate, as a decimal.

Co-60 has a half life of 5.3 years.

This means that:

A(5.3) = 0.5A(0)

We use this to find r. So

A(t) = A(0)(1-r)^t

0.5A(0) = A(0)(1-r)^{5.3}

(1-r)^{5.3} = 0.5

\sqrt[5.3]{(1-r)^{5.3}} = \sqrt[5.3]{0.5}

1 - r = 0.5^{\frac{1}{5.3}}

1 - r = 0.8774

So

A(t) = A(0)(0.8774)^{t}

If a pellet that has been in storage for 26.5 years contains 14.5g of Co-60, how much of this radioisotope was present when the pellet was put in storage?

We have that A(26.5) = 14.5, and use this to find A(0). So

A(t) = A(0)(0.8774)^{t}

14.5 = A(0)(0.8774)^{26.5}

A(0) = \frac{14.5}{(0.8774)^{26.5}}

[tex]A(0) = 464[tex]

464 grams.
