Its construction was authorized by Federal-Aid Highway Act in 1956. It extends all over the united states, having routes in Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico. The interstate system helped in the transportation of raw materials between the rural and urban areas. The connection of highways eased the traveling and new industries came up in new areas (Suburbs) and led to the expansion of new cities.
