Decide if the following statements regarding Intermolecular forces are True or False. 1. HF will have a higher vapor pressure at

25oC than KCl. 2. CH3CH2OH will have a higher melting point than CH3OCH3. 3. As the polarity of a covalent compound increases, the solubility of the compound in CCl4 decreases. 4. NH3 will have a lower vapor pressure at -50oC than NO. 5. CH3CH2CH3 will have a higher boiling point than CH3CH3. Please explain the answers as well.

Explanation:

1).   In a HF molecule there will be dipole forces due to difference in electronegativity of both hydrogen and fluorine atom. Hence, there will exist weak intermolecular forces as compared to the intermolecular forces between KCl.

So, the statement HF will have a higher vapor pressure at 25^{o}C than KCl is true.

2).  In CH_{3}CH_{2}OH molecule, there will be hydrogen bonding which is stronger than dipole forces. Hence, it will have high melting point. Whereas in CH_{3}OCH_{3} there will be dipole forces due to which there will be weak intermolecular forces leading to low melting point.

Therefore, the statement CH_{3}CH_{2}OH will have a higher melting point than CH_{3}OCH_{3}, is true.

3).   Since, like dissolves like. So, with increase in polarity of a covalent compound there will occur a decrease in solubility of the compound in CCl_{4} because CCl_{4} is a non-polar solvent.

Hence, the statement as the polarity of a covalent compound increases, the solubility of the compound in  CCl_{4} decreases, is true.

4).    In NH_{3} molecule there will be hydrogen bonding due to which it will have strong intermolecular forces leading to a lower vapor pressure as compared to NO in which dipole forces exist.

Hence, the statement NH_{3} will have a lower vapor pressure at -50^{o}C than NO, is true.

5).   Longer is the hydrocarbon chain more will be its boiling point. Hence, the statement CH_3CH_2CH_3 will have a higher boiling point than CH_3CH_3, is true.

A pumpkin rolls 3.78 km in 6.8 hours. What is its speed?
Zielflug [23.3K]

Answer:

The answer is

<h2>0.56 km/hr </h2>

Explanation:

The speed of an object given the distance and time can be found by using the formula

speed =  \frac{distance}{time}  \\

From the question

distance covered by pumpkin = 3.78 km

volume = 6.8 hours

The speed is

speed =  \frac{3.78}{6.80}  \\  = 0.5558823...

We have the final answer as

<h3>0.56 km/hr </h3>

Hope this helps you

Which statement best describes how photosynthesis follows the law of conservation of mass?
leva [86]

Answer:

O The number of oxygen atoms in the reactants used by this process equals the total number of oxygen atoms in the products.

Explanation:

The statement that best describes how photosynthesis follows the law of conservation of mass is that the number of oxygen atoms in the reactants used by this process is equal to the total number of oxygen atoms in the products.

 The equation of photosynthesis reaction is given as:

        6CO₂    +     6H₂O    →    C₆ H₁₂ O₆ +  6O₂

According to the law of conservation of mass, matter is neither created nor destroyed during the course of a chemical reaction.

By the virtue of this, the number of oxygen atom on both sides of the expression must be the same. Also, the number of carbon and hydrogen atoms must also be the same.

Determine the volume (in liters) of a 87.8-9 sample of OF2 gas at 307 torr and 264°C.
expeople1 [14]

Answer:

V = 177.4 L.

Explanation:

Hello there!

In this case, since this gas can be assumed as ideal due to the given data, we can use the following equation:

PV=nRT\\\\PV=\frac{m}{MM}RT

Thus, by solving for volume we obtain:

V=\frac{mRT}{MM*P}

So we can plug in the temperature in Kelvins (537 K), the pressure in atmospheres (0.404 atm) and the molar mass (54 g/mol) to obtain:

V=\frac{87.8g*0.08206\frac{atm*L}{mol*K}*537K}{54g/mol*0.404atm}\\\\V=177.4L

Best regards!
