Because most of the axis powers had given up, Japan was the only remaning axis power to have not surrendered, they were still fighting and executing innocents. Harry Truman decided it would be better to drop the atomic bomb to stop the onslaught of millions of innocent bystanders, albeit killing tens of thousands dropping the atomic bombs.
