Answer:

The correct answer is D. Napoleon's invasion of Portugal led to Brazil's independence.

Explanation:

In 1807, the French army invaded Portugal, which refused to adhere to the continental blockade against the United Kingdom. Unable to resist this attack, the royal family and the Portuguese government fled to Brazil, which was then the richest and most developed of the Lusitanian colonies. The installation of the court in Rio de Janeiro brought a series of political, economic and social transformations which led to the decision of the regent Jean de Portugal to make the country a kingdom associated with its former metropolis in 1815.

In 1820, a liberal revolution broke out in Portugal and the royal family was soon forced to return to Lisbon. Before leaving, however, the sovereign appointed his eldest son, Prince Pierre, regent of Brazil in 1821. Faithful to his father, the prince saw his policy complicated by the will of the Portuguese Courts to bring Brazil back to its former status as a colony. The Portuguese armed forces, commanded by Jorge Avilez then tried to make the regent a mere puppet, but Pierre managed to quell their uprising. On September 7, 1822, the prince launched the “Cry of Ipiranga” and proclaimed the independence of Brazil.

The correct answer is D: Napoleon's invasion of Portugal.

Napoleon's invasion of Portugal led to Brazil's independence whereby in the year 1820  the Portuguese king fled to Brazil during the Napoleonic Wars. This fleeing led to an eruption of Constitutionalist Revolution in the city of Porto that quickly and peacefully spread to the rest of Brazil. It resulted in the return of the Portuguese crown to Europe and a further declaration of Brazil’s independence from Portugal in the year 1822.

Critical analysis of the article by Carson, Clayborne. 2005.“To Walk in Dignity: The Montgomery Bus Boycott.” with the method of REEC is described below.

Explanation:

King reads a prepared statement to about 2,500 persons attending mass meetings at Holt Street and First Baptist Churches.

1 He urges “the Negro citizens of Montgomery to return to the busses tomorrow morning on a non-segregated basis.”

2 A Birmingham News account of the meetings reported that he admitted “it is true we got more out of this (boycott) than we went in for. We started out to get modified segregation (on buses) but we got total integration.

3 At six A.M. the following morning King joined E. D. Nixon, Ralph Abernathy, and Glenn Smiley on one of the first integrated buses. During the initial day of desegregated bus seating there were only a few instances of verbal abuse and occasional violence.

4 For more than twelve months now, we, the Negro citizens of Montgomery have been engaged in a non-violent protest against injustices and indignities experienced on city buses Often our movement has been referred to as a boycott movement. The word boycott, however, does not adequately describe the true spirit of our movement. The word boycott is suggestive of merely an economic squeeze devoid of any positive value.
