a. ((x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2)^(1/2)

(-4-8)^2 + (1-5)^2     144+16= 160

160^(1/2)= 12.64

b. (8-4)/2    & (5+1)/2

4/2=2    6/2=3
