Consider a generic redox reaction?
vesna_86 [32]
The Nernst equation allows us to predict the cell potential for voltaic cells under conditions other than the standard conditions of 1M, 1 atm, 25°C. The effects of different temperatures and concentrations may be tracked in terms of the Gibbs energy change ΔG. This free energy change depends upon the temperature & concentrations according to   ΔG = ΔG°  +  RTInQ  where ΔG° is the free energy change under conditions and Q is the thermodynamic reaction quotient. The free energy change is related to the cell potential  Ecell by ΔG= nFEcell

so for non-standard conditions
              -nFEcell = -nFE°cell  + RT InQ

or

              Ecell  =  E°cell - RT/nF (InQ)

which is called Nernst equation.

How to solve this: a small dog has consumed a dangerous amount of apap. the vet has ordered: rx acetylcysteine 150mg/kg/stat. yo
Fantom [35]
Given:
Stock dose/concentration of 20% Acetylcysteine (200 mg/mL)
150 mg/kg dose of Acetylcysteine
Weight of the dog is 13.2 lb

First we must convert 13.2 lb to kg:
13.2 lb/(2.2kg/lb) = 6 kg

Then we must calculate the dose:
(150 mg/kg)(6kg) = 900 mg

Lastly, we must calculate the dose in liquid form to be administered:
(900 mg)/(200 mg/mL) = 4.5 mL

Therefore, 4.5 mL of 20% Acetylcysteine should be given.

Compare and contrast a pure substance with a mixture and give an example.
Inessa [10]

Of any substance? What about two powders such as 1/2 cup of white flour, then mixing 1/2 cup of salt together with the flour. This would then form a more coarse mixture being that the two particles differ in shape.
