An air force introductory course in electronics uses a personalized system of instruction whereby each student views a videotape

d lecture and then is given a programmed instruction text. the students work independently with the text until they have completed the training and passed a test. of concern is the varying pace at which the students complete this portion of their training program. some students are able to cover the programmed instruction text relatively quickly, whereas other students work much longer with the text and require additional time to complete the course. the fast students wait until the slow students complete the introductory course before the entire group proceeds together with other aspects of their training.
A proposed alternative system involves the use of computer-assisted instruction. In this method, all students view the same videotaped lecture and then each is assigned to a computer terminal for further instruction. The computer guides the student, working independently, through the self-training portion of the course.
To compare the proposed and current methods of instruction, an entering class of 122 students was assigned randomly to one of the two methods. One group of 61 students used the current programmed-text method and the other group of 61 students used the proposed computer-assisted method. The time in hours was recorded for each student in the study.
The following data are provided in the data set Training.

Course Completion Times (hours) for Current fraining Method

Required:
1. Use appropriate descriptive statistics to summarize the training time data for each method. What similarities or differences do you observe from the sample data?
2. Use the methods of Chapter 10 to comment on any difference between the population means for the two methods. Discuss your findings.
3. Compute the standard deviation and variance for each training method. Conduct a hypothesis test about the equality of population variances for the two training methods. Discuss your findings.
4. What conclusion can you reach about any differences between the two methods? What is your recommendation? Explain.
5. Can you suggest other data or testing that might be desirable before making a final decision on the training program to be used in the future?

Answer:

See explaination

Step-by-step explanation:

We can define standard deviation in statistics as a measure of the amount of variation or dispersion of a set of values. A low standard deviation indicates that the values tend to be close to the mean of the set, while a high standard deviation indicates that the values are spread out over a wider range.

(a) [\frac{9}{2.6}  - \frac{2.5^{2} }{2.5} ]^{2}

Answer:

[\frac{9}{2.6}  - \frac{2.5^{2} }{2.5} ]^{2}

= [\frac{9}{2.6}  - \frac{2.5*2.5 }{2.5} ]^{2}

= [\frac{9}{2.6}  - \frac{2.5}{1} ]^{2}

*canceling 2.5 in numerator and denominator*

= [\frac{9-(2.5)(2.6)}{2.6} ]^2\\*Using L.C.M of 2.6 and 1 which comes out to be '2.6'= [\frac{9-(6.5)}{2.6} ]^2\\= [\frac{2.5}{2.6} ]^2\\*multiplying and dividing by '10'= [\frac{2.5*10}{2.6*10} ]^2\\= [\frac{25}{26} ]^2\\= \frac{25^2}{26^2}\\= \frac{625}{676}\\= 0.925

Properties used:

Cancellation property of fractions

Least Common Multiplier(LCM)

The least or smallest common multiple of any two or more given natural numbers are termed as LCM. For example, LCM of 10, 15, and 20 is 60.

(b) [[\frac{3x^{a}y^{b}} {-3x^{a} y^{b} } ]^{3}    ] ^{2}

Answer:

[[\frac{3x^{a}y^{b}} {-3x^{a} y^{b} } ]^{3}] ^{2}\\

*using [x^{a}]^b = x^{ab}*

= [\frac{3x^{3a}y^{3b}} {-3x^{3a} y^{3b} }] ^{2}

*Again, using [x^{a}]^b = x^{ab}*

= \frac{3x^{2*3a}y^{2*3b}} {-3x^{2*3a} y^{2*3b} }  \\= (-1)\frac{3x^{6a}y^{6b}} {3x^{6a} y^{6b} }\\[\tex]*taking -1 common, denominator and numerator are equal*[tex]= -(1)\frac{1}{1}\\= -1

Property used: 'Power of a power'

We can raise a power to a power

(x^2)4=(x⋅x)⋅(x⋅x)⋅(x⋅x)⋅(x⋅x)=x^8

This is called the power of a power property and says that to find a power of a power you just have to multiply the exponents.

There were 3 apple, 1 mixed fruit, 2 grape, and 4 tropical fruit juice boxes in the cooler at the picnic. What is the probabilit
goldenfox [79]

There are  10  juice boxes in the cooler altogether.
2  of them are grape.

The first time Jill pulls one out with her eyes closed,
the probability that it's a grape is

                                         2 / 10 .

If that try is successful, then there are  9  boxes left in the cooler,
and one of them is grape.

If she already has one grape, and reaches in again with her eyes
closed, the probability of pulling out the second grape is

                                        1 / 9 .

The probability of both events happening in two tries is

                           (2/10) x (1/9) = 2/90 = 1/45  =  (2 and 2/9) percent .

Finding area of shaded sectors.
tekilochka [14]

Answer:

69.81 sq. m. (rounded to 2 decimal places)

Step-by-step explanation:

The sector of a circle is "part" or "portion" of a circle. The formula for the area of a sector is:

A=\frac{\theta}{360}*\pi r^2

Where

\theta  is the central angle

r is the radius

Given the figure, the arc is given as 80 degrees, but not the central angle of the shaded sector. But from geometry we know that the central angle and the intercepted arc have the same measure. So we can say:

\theta = 80

Also, the radius of the circle shown is 10 meters, so

r = 10

Now, we substitute in formula and find our answer:

A=\frac{\theta}{360}*\pi r^2\\A=\frac{80}{360}*\pi (10)^2\\A=\frac{2}{9}*100\pi\\A=\frac{200\pi}{9}\\A=69.81

Thus,

The area of the shaded sector is 69.81 sq. meters.
