In 1948, President Truman's reelection was in doubt because President Truman's foreign and civil rights policies alienated a large group of voters. Nobody gave Truman a chance of winning the election. Surprisingly, he did win the Presidential election of 9148. I hope the answer helps you.

In the middle ages, most people (unless you were a monk, nun, ect) were illiterate, and relied on the church for information and laws. People then were devoutly Catholic/Christian so people's trust in the Church was strong (until the protestant revolution).
