We’ll get a nice, cozy truck.” Joe Millimurra is also kind, and the author makes it pretty obvious from the sentence on page 69 where it says that Joe said “Go back old man, I don’t want to hurt you.” This means that Joe has empathy for the elder, and doesn’t want to hurt him.
Joe is also respectful, and I say that this is a fact because he bought Mary a dress once he got out of prison. Don’t believe me? It’s in the story. It clearly states that “Wages earned, a few bob and they gave it to me when I got out.” He clearly feels bad for being in prison for so long, having no quality time spent with Mary, so he bought her a dress.
