QUESTION 1

Given that just over 3 quarters of Canadians live within a short distance of the USA border.

To write the fraction, 3 quarters as a decimal.

1 quarter = 1/4

3 quarters = 3 (1/4)

= 3/4

= 0.75

Therefore, just over 0.75 of Canadians live within a short distance of the USA border.

QUESTION 2

Given,

Amersham station is at 482 ft above sea level

Waterloo station is at 70 ft below sea level

Let the seal level be point 0

Position of Amersham station is at +482ft

Position of Waterloo station is at -70 ft

Height difference = +482 – (-70)

Since minus times minus equals plus

Height difference = 482 + 70

Height difference = 552ft
