First, the changing in the <em>energy sources</em> used and second the increased of <em>mechanization</em> in the industries and the improvements in the worker efficiency.

The First Industrial Revolution was characterized by the invention of the rail transport that used to help moving passengers and goods from one place to another with steam power. The great transition to the Second Industrial Revolution in the United States became with the introduction of different types of energy sources like <em>oil</em> and <em>electricity</em> that were used to improve the industry into a whole new level of production.

During The Gilded Age, the american economy were based on <em>heavy industry</em> such as factories, railroads and coal mining.

Henry Ford was of big importance in this situation thanks to employing interchangeable parts on assembly lines which where the beginning of <em>industrial mass production</em> that took America to the top of the world.

Factories became more automated with assembly lines. The middle class diminished, as the rich got richer and poor got poorer. There was a transition from steam power to that of oil and electric.

He also wants demand of oil and other fossile fuels to be reduced so thattheir prices go up, increasing his profit margins exponentially. He definitely does not care about the deleterious effects of fracking on the environment.
