Within an hour and 42 minutes, both 110-story towers collapsed.

Estimates of the number of people in the Twin Towers on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, range between 14,000 and 19,000. The National Institute of Standards and Technology estimated that approximately 17,400 civilians were in the World Trade Center complex at the time of the attack.

During the September 11 attacks of 2001, 2,977 people died, and more than 6,000 others were injured. The immediate deaths included 265 on the four planes, 2,606 in the World Trade Center.
