Answer:

The correct answer is option B. "Because the mind is not imprisoned".

Explanation:

Henry David Thoreau was an American essayist, who was abolitionist that at one time spent one night in jail for not paying the taxes because he did not agree with the Mexican–American War or slavery. Henry David Thoreau took advantage of his night in jail and took the story of his cellmate as an inspiration for his essays. In his book "Resistance to Civil Government" ("Civil Disobedience") he argues that imprisonment is ineffective because in his own experience the government could imprison his body, but his mind and his spirit would always remain free.

Trava [24]

Answer:

The Earth’s rotation creates an outward force that is highest at the equator and zero at the poles. Since the Earth is not perfectly solid throughout, this force results in the Earth being ‘squashed’ into a slightly flattened sphere.

MrRa [10]

Answer:I think that most of the claims listed above could be argued well with specific evidence from Thoreau's essay, but I would be a little suspicious of one of the claims and downright skeptical about another one. To me, Thoreau seems disturbed by the emphasis on technological "improvements" in his day, such as the telegraph and railroad, but does he really believe that technology is the "primary cause of distress"? Right now, I really don't know, so I would wait to see how well the writer could support this interpretation before I would make up my mind

Complete the sentence with a pronoun that refers to the bold word. Each king knew I pajamas were too casual for Monse Finnie's b
tangare [24]

Answer:

- Each king knew <u>his</u> pajamas were too casual for Monse Finnie's banquet.

Explanation:

The correct pronoun referring to the bold word(each king) would be 'his' as 'each' is a singular indefinite pronoun that carries a singular antecedent 'his or her.' Since 'king' is used only for masculine, thus, we will use 'his' as the antecedent which refers to the pronoun 'each king.' It helps in referring to each king without being specific to a particular.

What are the advantages of the Swiss rescue technique? Cite text<br><br> evidence in your response.
Olegator [25]

Answer:

The Swiss technique requires less skills than the normal B3 rescue helicopters, maintenance is lower, and most of all, the loss of life is lesser. It allows the easy rescue operation than the normal helicopter rescue where only a single person can be rescued per trip.

Explanation:

The Swiss rescue technique regarding the rescue operations of mountain climbers is advantageous over the normal helicopter rescue. This is evident in the answer given by Nick Heil in his radio interview with Robert Siegel in "Helicopter Rescues Increasing on Everest".

According to Nick, the normal rescue operations by helicopters can only rescue a single person one at a time, which may result in the other person left alone. But, with the <em>"arrival of some powerful, new, lightweight helicopters"</em>, the rescue operations were able to be more reliable and even have no problem with any high altitude rescue operations. These lightweight helicopter rescue technique from Switzerland called <em>"long line or short haul"</em> allows easy rescue operations as compared to the more complicated manner of normal helicopters. Moreover, the maintenance of the B3 helicopters was high. But with this Swiss technique, the skills to operate the machines is easy and the<em> "margin for error is quite small"</em>.
