To round $2.99 to the nearest cent we will look at the digit in the hundredths place which in this case it the 2nd 9 (2.99). If this number is 5 or higher we will round up and if it is less than 5 we will leave it. Since this is more than 5 we will round up to the nearest cent which would make it .00 which would make the number $2.99 rounded to the nearest cent $3.00.
