To measure the length or height of something which is a little smaller we prefer to use centimeters.

Lets look at each of the options one by one.

1. Distance between Philadelphia and New York , it is roughly about 94.1 miles which will be way too big of a number if converted in to centimeters (it will be 15000000 cm).

2. Length of a paperclip, this is something that is a considerable length and can be measured in centimeters. Usually a paper clip measures around 3-4 centimeters.

3. Height of a standard ceiling, while constructing something we measure height or length or the width of a floor in feet.

4. Yearly increase in a child's height, that can be measured in centimeters but often we use inches.

5. Width of a swimming pool is also conventionally measured in feet.

So, it is the length of a paperclip and the yearly increase in a height of a child are two things that can be measured in centimeters.

Pentagon TEXAS has vertices at T(1, 8), E(3, 8), X(6, 2), A(3, 2), and S(1, 4). What is the area of Pentagon TEXAS?
Tamiku [17]

The area of the pentagon is 19 square units

The coordinates of the pentagon are given as:

T = (1, 8)

E =(3, 8)

X =(6, 2)

A=(3, 2)

S = (1, 4)

The area of the pentagon is then calculated using:

Area = \frac 12|(x_1y_2+x_2y_3+x_3y_4+x_4y_5+x_5y_1) -(y_1x_2+y_2x_3+y_3x_4+y_4x_5+y_5x_1)|

So, we have:

Area = \frac 12|(1 \times 8 +3 \times 2+6\times2+3 \times 4 + 1 \times 8) -(8\times3+8\times6+2\times3+2\times1+4\times1)|

Simplify the expressions in both brackets

Area = \frac 12|46 -84|

Area = \frac 12|-38|

Remove absolute bracket

Area = \frac 12 \times 38

Area = 19

Hence, the area of the pentagon is 19 square units

Subtract the cube root of the product of x and 3y from the square of the sum of a and b.
rosijanka [135]

Answer:

a^2 + b^2 + 2ab - (3xy)^1/3

Step-by-step explanation:

Here we want to make a subtraction

Cube root of the product of x and 3y

x * 3y = 3xy

Cube root of this;

(3xy)^1/3

The sum of a and b is (a + b)

Square of this sum;

(a + b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2

Now, subtract the cube root

we have;

a^2 + b^2 + 2ab - (3xy)^1/3
