The lash was a whip used then to ensure compliance from black slaves during the era of slave trade. The blood drawn by whipping was going to be repaid by a sword drawn at those that carried at the whipping as it was during war time. It suggest that those that the sword will be drawn at will be getting exactly what they sowed and as such it was a deserving end.
