What is the average rate of change of the function f(x) =<br> x2 + 4 for 1 Sx &lt;5?
maxonik [38]

Solve the equation for 1 and 5:

1^2 +4 = 1+4 = 5

5^2 + 4 = 25 +4 = 29

Find the difference:

29 -5 = 24

Find the difference of the X values: 5-1 = 4

Rate of change is the change in Y over the change in X:

The rate of change would be: 24/4 = 6
