According to psychology, motivation is an incentive or reason to do something. It can be achieved by two ways: having an external stimulus and an internal stimulus.

The difference between is that external stimulus (extrinsic motivation) depends on an outside source, for example, when we offer to kids some candies after they clean their bedroom, or giving a snack to the dog after he do something positive. The main weakness of this extrinsic motivations is when the outside source is not present, motivation will disappear too.

On the other hand, intrinsic motivation is caused by an inside source, we motivate ourself. For example, we want to win the game because we want to proof our physical capacity, or because we just enjoy the game, or studying a subject because you are curious.
