Prokaryotes are those organisms that are devoid of nucleus and membrane bound subcellular compartments (called cell organelles).
They primarily include bacteria, which act as decomposers, by breaking the organic compounds of different life forms such as plants and animals into simpler forms (which are vital nutrients such as carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous) that are returned back to the environment.
