The Populist Party, also known as the People's Party, was created initially as a farmer organization to discuss about the economic problems the government has caused for farmers. Later, they turned political as they discovered that they had more needs such as a secret ballot, income tax, etc. However in 1896, they didn't have enough money to run again, and thus, the party slowly diminished.
The four classes were the following:
gentry and scholars (shi)
peasant farmers (nong)
craftsmen (gong)
shang (merchants)
the top of the hierarchy was occupied by the shi - the gentry.
Trade was almost impossible since states printed their own money

The similarities in the Mexican and American Revolutions can be seen in several things. One of the things was gaining an independence from the motherland that formed them, by over time grew to be more of a burden to their development. Another similarity is that the human rights and the slavery were part of the motives, as well as being able to create their own politics. Both revolutions were waged on their own territories, not on the territories of the motherlands, or on neutral ground. Both revolutions were eventually successful and Mexico and US gained independence from Spain and Britain.
