It was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor yet we, the male citizens; but we, the whole people, who formed the Union. And we formed it, not to give the blessings of liberty, but to secure them; not to the half of ourselves and the half of our posterity, but to the whole people - women as well as men. And it is a downright mockery to talk to women of their enjoyment of the blessings of liberty while they are denied the use of the only means of securing them provided by this democratic-republican government - the ballot.

1. How do you think the Scarlet Pimpernel escaped the night Chauvelin had set a trap for him at Lord Grenville's house?
devlian [24]

Answer:

He removes Scarlet Pimpernel's disguise and appears to Chauvelin as Lord Percy and invites him to smoke snuff.

Explanation:

This question is about the book "The Scarlet Pimpernel" that tells the story of how Lord Percy disguises himself in the hero Scarlet Pimpernel to save French nobles sentenced to death by guillotine.

Scarlet Pimpernel has many enemies who do not like to have their activities interrupted by him. One of these enemies is Chauvelin who sets a trap through which Scarlet Pimpernel would not be able to escape. However, in order not to be found, Scarlet pimpenel removes all disguise and appears to Chauvelin as Lord Percy and invites him to smoke snuff. Chauvelin accepts the invitation, but Percy mixes the snuff with pepper powder which causes Chauvelin to have a series of sneezes that leaves him unable to chase Percy.

In at least 100 words, explain whose hidden agenda led Giles to be crushed to death with stones.
larisa86 [58]
In order to put pressure on Corey to give an answer, the courts tortured the man, placing large stones on his chest to force him to say something. Despite the horrific pain, Corey refuses to incriminate himself or any of his friends and neighbors, simply asking for "more weight" before he dies from the crushing burden of the stones. This leaves the community, and the Proctors in particular, with the impression that Corey was "a fearsome man." He is respected for his strength and courage in the face of the court's insane practices. Being a landowner in this time, was seen as having power. It was something sought after by many men and they would stop at nothing to get what they wanted. Putnam wanted more and more land and Corey Giles owned land.
I hope this helps!

When Kadijah and Cal read the same foldable, they realized how interesting folktales can be. Is it a...
Whitepunk [10]

This is a complex sentence it includes a subordinate clause (one that CANNOT stand by itself), and a dependent clause.  You can tell this because if I were to walk into a room and say, "When K and C read the same foldable....", you would be waiting to hear the rest, wouldn't you?  A compound sentence has two independent clauses joined by a comma and a coordinating conjunction (but, and, for, nor, or, so, yet).  A simple sentence is just an independent clause.
