You can tell when he works he is messy, which sets him up as a messy worker, with possible mistakes. It shows that the reason he is messy is that he is focused.

The setting talks about Victor Frankenstein.

He is a loner, since his work is placed in an area separated from all others by two things. It seems that this is on purpose. The text indicates that he isolates himself to do his questionable work without interruptions. Also, he is so focused that he doesn't care or pay attention to anything else but his work, since he can't take his eyes off it.

Victor lives for his work and he doesn't want anything to break his concentration or question his deeds.
