When NASA sent the Apollo missions to the moon, they needed more accurate images of the moon's surface. NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab thus created a technology called digital image processing, which used computers to improve images of the moon. Later, researchers found that this digital image processing could also help to improve images of organs in humans, thus making a significant medical discovery.
