Answer: Metaphors, poetic dialogue, verse division and presence of adjectives.

Explanation:

A poem is an artistic composition created for different reasons that depend on the author and on the social and historical context of creation. When we talk about the poetry we are talking about diversity due to, as societies, the poetic expressions have changed with times. However, there are some common recourses that a poet uses to express himself.

Alfred Lord Tennyson was an English poet and playwright that created the called “dramatic monologue” which is a special type of poetical composition. The deserted house, one of his poems published in 1830, is an example of his masterly work. In the composition, the author uses the metaphor of an abandoned and dark house to refer to a dead body.

There are some characteristics that its third fragment shows to allow us to catalogue it as a poetry material:

1. Metaphors: the author uses some metaphors to present facts and feelings, for example in: “all within is dark as night”.

2. Poetic dialogue: it is used to add different meanings to just one word giving an artistic point to the composition. It could be seen in: “Close the door, the shutters close” where the word close is repeated in order to put some emphasis on its meaning.

3. Verse division: As almost any poetical composition, this part of the poem is divided into verses.

4. Presence of adjectives: The poetical style frequently applies many adjectives in order to enlarge the word’s and sentences’ meanings. In all the fragment that interest us we can see this: “But in a city glorious/ A great and distant city--have bought/ A mansion incorruptible.”

Of course, it exists more figures and poetical licenses that this fragment shows, but with the anterior four examples, we can say that The deserted house is clearly a poetical material.

Why does grendel fear hrothgar
Masteriza [31]
Grendel fears Hrothgar because of the Shaper. The Shaper has made Hrothgar so much more of a magnificent figure than he was before. In sense, the Shaper "shaped" Hrothgar's feats and reputation to a more amplified one, making Grendel fear the new and great Hrothgar by the skill of poetry and speech.
