You throw a small rock straight up from the edge of a highway bridge that crosses a river. the rock passes you on its way down,

9.00 s after it was thrown. what is the speed of the rock just before it reaches the water 29.0 m below the point where the rock left your hand? ignore air resistance.

Looking for t, the computation would be:
t = 2[initial vertical velocity] / g = 2u/g
=> 9 = 2u/9.81
or u = 9 x 9.81 / 2 = 44.16 m/s (upwards)
conservation of energy: loss in potential energy(mgh) would be equal to gain in kinetic energy (½mv²)
=> ½mv² - ½mu² = mg29
=> v² = 58(9.81) + 44.16^2
= 568.98 + 1950.1056 = 2519.0856
getting the square root will give us the speed of the rock, which is:
=> v = √[2519.0856] ~= 50.19 m/s (directed downwards)

Time of flight=\frac{2v}{g}

⇒9=\frac{2v}{9.81}

⇒v=\frac{9.81{\times}9}{2}

⇒v=44.145 ms^{-1}

As the rock passes you, the speed is 44.145ms^{-1}.

Now, rock's path from bridge to water is:

v^{2}-u^{2}=2gs

⇒v^{2}=(44.145)^{2}+2(9.81)(29)

⇒v^{2}=1948.7+568.98

⇒v^{2}=2517.68

⇒v=50.17ms^{-1}

Thus, rock's speed is 50.17ms^{-1} just before it reaches the water.

The magnetic field at the centre of a toroid is 2.2-mT. If the toroid carries a current of 9.6 A and has 6.000 turns, what is th
ziro4ka [17]

Answer:

Radius, r = 0.00523 meters

Explanation:

It is given that,

Magnetic field, B=2\ mT=2.2\times 10^{-3}\ T

Current in the toroid, I = 9.6 A

Number of turns, N = 6

We need to find the radius of the toroid. The magnetic field at the center of the toroid is given by :

B=\dfrac{\mu_oNI}{2\pi r}

r=\dfrac{\mu_oNI}{2\pi B}

r=\dfrac{4\pi \times 10^{-7}\times 6\times 9.6}{2.2\pi \times 2\times 10^{-3}}

r = 0.00523 m

or

r=5.23\times 10^{-3}\ m

So, the radius of the toroid is 0.00523 meters. Hence, this is the required solution.

A suspension bridge has twin towers that are 1300 feet apart. Each tower extends 180 feet above the road surface. The cables are
zhannawk [14.2K]

Answer:

y = 17.04 ft

Explanation:

Since the cable touches the road at the mid point of two towers

so here we have vertex at that mid point taken to be origin

now the maximum height on the either side is given as

y = 180 ft

horizontal distance of the tower from mid point is given as

x = \frac{1300}{2} = 650 ft

now from the equation of parabola we have

y = k x^2

180 = k(650^2)

k = 4.26 \times 10^{-4}

now we have

y = (4.26 \times 10^{-4})x^2

now we need to find the height at distance of 200 ft from center

so we have

y = (4.26 \times 10^{-4})(200^2)

y = 17.04 ft
