. What is the Supremacy Clause? How does this prevent conflicts between the federal government and the state governments?
Tcecarenko [31]
The Supremacy Clause (Article 6, Clause two) declares that the Constitution is the "supreme law of the land". It establishes that federal laws rule over state laws. This ensures that there will be no disagreement between the state and the national government over who has more authority. Federalism is a system of government where the power is shared between the state and national government, but this does not mean that they are equal. The national government will be "supreme".

1. Why would the fact that Jeffersons owned slaves (a true fact) cause the Professor to not discuss him in a college class? 2-3
meriva

Answer:

Is that the professor's reason for not discussing Jefferson...he owned slaves? I assumed you asked the professor? I can see no reason why Jefferson shouldn't be discussed. If any other person is discussed during that time frame, well, sorry...they all owned slaves and that is an invalid excuse imo.

2. What was an effect of the building of the Berlin Wall? (1 point)
MariettaO [177]
2. The correct answer is C. "East Berliners could no longer visit West Berliners."

The Berlin Wall split up Berlin into two distinct parts with two very different societies. East Berlin became controlled by the Soviet Union while West Berlin was controlled by the US and other members of the allied forces from World War II. Citizens were not allowed to access the other side. This split up families, caused people to lose their jobs, and resulted in violence/death (as many tried to escape to West Berlin but were killed by armed guards).

3. The correct answer is B. "He did not want to lose the support of Southern Democrats."

Kennedy feared that losing this huge block of voters would make it more difficult to pass laws in Congress and would make re-election efforts much more difficult as well.

4. The answer is B. "sex."

Kennedy signed this law into place in 1963 as part of his "New Frontier" policy. This was aimed at closing the gap between the wages of men and women in the United States.
