Misha has a board that is 17 1/2 inches long that he has to into 3 equal pieces.How long should each piece be?

17.5 (Or 1/2) divided by 3 = 5.833333333, or just 5.8. So each piece would be 5 4/5 in long.

(17 1/2)/(3/1)
(34/2)/(3/1)
34/2*1/3
34/6
17/3
5 2/3 inches.
