If the elevation or altitude increases, the temperature becomes decreases and the amount of precipitation increases. This type of change in temperature occurs when we go from the plain areas to the mountainous areas. The temperature of plain areas is high with less amount of precipitation while the temperature of mountainous areas is low with high rate of precipitation. So we can say that elevation differences cause fluctuation in temperature and precipitation of an area.
