For anybody else who is taking the quiz it's

"They do not truly believe that the German goal is to annihilate the Jews so they try to continue living their lives as usual."

not "They are optimistic that the British and the Americans will arrive before the Germans. "

I read the book and i almost chose C because i was unsure but they never mentioned any British or Americans they only talked about there was no possible way that the Germans could kill them all.
