There is a significant rain shadow effect east of the Rockies. One prime example is Denver. Over the course of a year it would typically receive ~20 inches of rain, but many locations to the west of the continental divide receive as much as 40 inches of rain a year. The politicians, despite their flaws, are generally not outright wicked people who exploit us, and the checks and balances system works. It is one of the safest countries, fairly egalitarian, has no true social hierarchy (compared to most of the rest of the world), and has strong press freedom. Strong worker rights exist, and society as a whole functions well. And of course its spacious and a lot of decent natural sites. Yeah, as another con i can add that it may be hard, unless you have a very outgoing personality to get friends as an adult. Of course it is easier if you are in certain organizations (sports, hobby, religious).
