When Wexton's son conquered the dragon in "The Death of Beowulf," it left him flushed, or reddened with exhilaration.
According to the dictionary, to be flushed is to present "a reddening of the face, skin, etc., typically caused by illness or strong emotion." Since Wexton's son had just defeated the dragon, he was incredibly happy and fulfilled to have completed his quest.
