Thus, this differs from its predecessor about Cartesian dualism which advocates separate physical and mental substances and Skinnerian physicalism and behaviorism which only states physical substances because it is only focused on effective brain functions, through the organization or software programs.
More formally, functionalism declares that mental states are formed by their causal relationships with each other and for sensory inputs and behavioral outputs (Block, 1996).
