The creation of the Transcontinental Railroad changed the life of the Americans. When it was finished, it finally connected the East of the United States to the West of the country. Transportation of goods and people improved dramatically and more trade opportunities were generated. It took seven years for the two companies to finish the construction. Finally, on May 10, 1869, The Central Pacific and the Union Pacific Railroad meet each other railroads in Promontory, Utah. So yes, one of the results of the creation of the transcontinental railroad was the Westward expansion.
