Dryland farming encompasses the agricultural techniques that involve the non irrigated cultivation of crops.
In essence, dryland farming practices involve making the best use of the reserve of soil moisture that was created by rain that occurred in the winter.
Techniques that helped farmers out west were:
Wider spacing between rows of crops to allow a bigger bank of moisture for the plants.
The strict control of the weed that could grow in the crops. Which generates unnecessary consumption of the moisture.
A selection of adequate crops suited for dry farming.
