False, deforestation is a worldwide problem. Every living creature on the planet requires shelter and oxygen, and if one of the main building material for housing and construction is wood. Also the bigger the overall population the bigger the demand for homes to be bulit, and it is a whole lot cheaper to simply cut down trees near you rather than pay to ship them overseas.
