Suppose that the sitting back-to-knee length for a group of adults has a normal distribution with a mean of mu equals 22.1 in.

and a standard deviation of sigma equals 1.2 in. These data are often used in the design of different seats, including aircraft seats, train seats, theater seats, and classroom seats. Instead of using 0.05 for identifying significant values, use the criteria that a value x is significantly high if P(x or greater)less than or equals0.01 and a value is significantly low if P(x or less)less than or equals0.01. Find the back-to-knee lengths separating significant values from those that are not significant. Using these criteria, is a back-to-knee length of 24.2 in. significantly high?

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that  the sitting back-to-knee length for a group of adults has a normal distribution with a mean of mu equals 22.1 in. and a standard deviation of sigma equals 1.2 in.

We have to find values of x such that

P(X\geq a) \leq 0.01\\ and

P(X\leq b) \leq 0.01

a=2.33 and b =-2.33 as z values

Let us convert to X values

x=22.1-2.33(1.2) \\x=22.1+2.33(1.2)\\

i.e. values below 19.304 and above 25.496

Hence for x below 19.304 and above 25.496 are significantly low and high.

24.2 length is not significantly high.

Anthony has a combination of 104 nickels and quarters totaling $22. Which system of linear equations can be used to find the num
Nana76 [90]

Answer:

x + y = 104

0.05x + 0.25y = 22

x = 20 niquels and y = 84 quarters

Step-by-step explanation:

Each niquel is $0.05, and each quarter is $0.25

So if we have x niquels and y quarters, we can set this system of equations:

x + y = 104 (eq1)

0.05x + 0.25y = 22 (eq2)

If we multiply the second equation by 4, and then subtract it from the first equation, we have:

(eq2)*4:    0.2x + y = 88

(eq1) - 4*(eq2):    0.8x = 16

x = 20

Now finding y with the first equation:

20 + y = 104

y = 84

torisob [31]

Answer:

-2\frac{1}{3}\times 1\frac{1}{2}=-3.5

Step-by-step explanation:

We are asked to find the product of -2\frac{1}{3} and 1\frac{1}{2}.

Upon writing our expression as a product we will get,

-2\frac{1}{3}\times 1\frac{1}{2}

Let us convert our given mixed fractions to improper fractions.

\frac{-7}{3}\times \frac{3}{2}

Upon cancelling out 3 from our given expression we will get,

\frac{-7}{2}

Upon dividing -7 by 2 we will get,

\frac{-7}{2}=-3.5

Therefore, our expression simplifies to -3.5.
