In the grapes of wrath chapter 21, the company owners implement a new invention to gain more profit from the cannery.

First of all, he brought the cannery. When the peaches and the pears were ripped, he cut the price below the cost of raising it. This will make him able to sell the fruits below market's price and gain profit, while the farmers that grew it suffer a great loss.
