Prepare journal entries to record these transactions. (Credit account titles are automatically indented when amount is entered.

Do not indent manually. If no entry is required, select "No Entry" for the account titles and enter 0 for the amounts.) (a) Echo Company retires its delivery equipment, which cost $41,000. Accumulated depreciation is also $41,000 on this delivery equipment. No salvage value is received. (b) Assume the same information as in part (a), except that accumulated depreciation for the equipment is $37,200 instead of 41,000.

Answer:

The journals to be recorded are as follows:

(a) Debit Accumulated depreciation                    $41,000

    Credit Equipment                                             $41,000

(b) Debit Accumulated depreciation                    $37,200

    Debit Loss on disposal [$41,000 - $37,200]    $3,800

    Credit Equipment                                              $41,000

(To recognize the disposals of the company's equipment)

Explanation:

Retiring company's asset otherwise means to dispose of the assets. Disposal of an asset can be as a result of being fully depreciated, wear and tear, obsolescence, new technological improvement, idleness of the assets, etc.

(a) In part (a) of the question, the asset was fully depreciated without salvage value, so there is zero gain or loss on disposal. The relevant accounting entries are as recorded above.

(b) Here, the accumulated depreciation was less than the cost, meaning the asset was not fully depreciated, which can be as a result of any of the reasons cited above. The company therefore realized a loss of $3,800 upon disposal.

Without the consumer, what would the overall effect be on the economy?
choli [55]

Answer:

Consumers are basis for any economy to work out.It is the consumers for which the country works and makes sure to fulfil the demand of the market. New businesses come into existence because they create needs in the consumers and fulfil those needs. These businesses become a part of the economy and therefore give an input.

If there are no consumers, there will be o demands and the produces will have no needs or demands to fulfil which would lead to less production and therefore leading towards the fall of the economy.

Explanation:

A) complete the activity rate for each activity is a general question covering so solution starts from (B)

B) calculation of the activity rate for each activity: shown in the attached table

C) Calculation of activity cost of all products

activity cost of each product = use of product activity * activity rate

production = ($80 * Machine hours of each product )

setup = ( $100 * number of setups for each product )

Material handling = ( $30 * number of parts of each product )

Inspection = ( $50 * number of inspection hours for each product )

Product engineering = ( $280 * number of engineering hour for each product )

Activity cost per unit = total cost of activity of each product / unit produced for each product

D) The activity unit costs are not equal across all three products because  of different activity bases such as machine hours, setups, parts and inspection hours that also determines the activity cost
