It was their way of protesting against the Tea Act of 1773 which grant the monopoly on tea to the East India Company despite their paying no taxes which harmed local tea merchants.
The Coercive and Intolerable Acts were the repsonse of the Birtish Empire, it led to massive retaliation like the forced closing of Boston Harbor. This party clearly prefigures the American Revolution which started in 1775
