Answer:

It gave the president the power to draft soldiers.

Explanation:

The Selective Service Act was a legislation passed six weeks after the United States entered the First World War, on May 18, 1917. This legislation gave the president the power to draft soldiers to fight on the Western Front with the Allies. Before this Act, the United States only had a small army of 100,000 volunteers. The Selective Service Act led to military conscription.

Bumek [7]
The Hoover quote shows that his approach to the Great Depression is one of no hope. Hoover tried to implement a couple federal works projects (like the Hoover Dam) to kick start the economy. This limited government role is thanks to Hoover's belief in laissez faire economics, which revolves around the idea that government should be involved as little as possible in the economy. With this in mind, it is easy to understand why Hoover does not give direct financial assistance to American citizens.

FDR, on the other hand, believed that the government should help in times of crisis. FDR uses this concept and develops the "New Deal." This "New Deal" is a policy in which the federal government creates several different agencies and programs to help American citizens recover from the Great Depression. This "can do"attitude reflects his determination and ties into the aforementioned quote.

Correct answer:  C. George Whitefield

George Whitefield (1714-1770) was one of the early leaders of the Methodist movement in England, and also came and preached in the American colonies.  During his career, he preached tens of thousands of sermons, with millions of people having heard him preach.  Ben Franklin was one of those who heard him preach and was impressed.  Christianity.com reports that Franklin offered to print Whitefield's sermons and provided housing to Whitefield in Philadelphia above his shop on Market Street.   Franklin wasn't a full "convert" to Whitefield's religious perspective, but he did have great respect for the work Whitefield did.
